How a tool that converts UPPERCASE into proper text makes $20,000 every month
Hello! Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your business?
I'm Jason, a 36-year-old from the UK. I’m a web developer based in Beverley, East Yorkshire with more than 23 years experience in web design and development.
In 2006, I launched ConvertCase, a website designed to effortlessly transform text from UPPERCASE to lowercase with just one click.
How did you start this business? Take us through the process.
This idea came out from a personal frustration.
I received constant emails from someone who typed in all UPPERCASE, making it feel like they were constantly shouting.
To add a bit of levity, I took it upon myself to craft a tool that could convert this text into standard case. Surprisingly, the initial prototype only took about an hour to develop.
I promptly launched it online, naming it convertcase.net.
How did you get your first initial customers?
Admittedly, I didn't actively promote it.
I simply submitted it to Google, and over the years, its traffic organically expanded.
My memory of the specifics from 2006 is a bit hazy. However, as depicted in the analytics screenshot, our growth rate started off quite slowly but has organically flourished over the years.
It seems that many people encountered the same issue, explaining why it gained popularity and became what it is today.ㅤ ㅤ ㅤ

Since launch, what are your marketing strategies or channels to get new customers?
Once more, there wasn't any targeted promotion; its growth remained entirely organic.
My approach involved consistently incorporating new tools and refining the user experience.
In order to gather what my users wanted in order to refine and improve the user experience, we have a "suggest a tool" feature on our site that garners numerous emails filled with great ideas from our users.
In addition, we proactively delve into search trends to conduct our own research. This combined effort allows us to gather a wide range of suggestions for potential tools, ensuring a diverse pool of ideas for our platform's enhancement.
I also focused on enhancing speed and fine-tuning the UI whenever necessary, contributing to its ongoing evolution.
How does your business make money?
The site relies solely on on-site advertisements to sustain itself. Users can access all features for free.
The advertising aspect of our platform is expertly handled by Adapex. They serve as the bridge between us and diverse ad networks, consistently striving to optimize our revenue streams.
The site generates a monthly recurring revenue (MRR) of $20,000, while its operational costs amount to approximately $20.
Convertcase also has a “Buy me a coffee” page where people can donate sums of $5.
