A No-Code SEO Tool Making $2,000 Monthly

Hello! Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your business?

Hey! I'm Minh I'm an indiemaker from France. I used to work in Finance for 7 years at big banks (JP Morgan, French Investment Bank, etc.) then left everything to learn programming at 42.

Launched my first startup, a SaaS for perks and benefits and failed because I wasn't able to launch the product as fast as I made the first pre-sales! Then discovered about No-code to launch your product faster and came across Bubble.io.

I'm now a freelance developer specialized in nocode and I run 2 SaaS SEOmatic.ai and SERPcrawl.com (recently launched) all built with nocode.

How did you start this business? Take us through the process.

It all started during COVID, I was bored and decided to learn new skills so I started with SEO so I built an e-commerce store just to learn SEO!

Then I quickly tried other digital business like selling courses or online coaching then naturally I went with SaaS as a developer. Let's not count my first failed SaaS as this experience was quick (only lasted one month).

But for SEOmatic.ai I learned about programmatic SEO by doing programmatic SEO for a freelance client (I didn't even know back then it was called programmatic SEO!). I've learned how to implement it by working along side with the Head of SEO from a French scale-up company in the sport business. We were creating thousands of pages to cover every running events. And it worked. We were ranking #1 on Google for a lot of long-term keywords with more than 7k pages indexed and +18k visits/month.

Basically, the idea behind programmatic SEO is to create tons of landing pages on low volume keywords but cumulated we drove tons of traffic to their site generating 7k+ indexed pages and 18k+ monthly visits. So I said why not make this into a SaaS to help niche site owners, digital agencies, SaaS startups do the same?

I built the MVP in less than 1 month with Bubble.io and started to collect payments right away and that's how I knew I validated the idea!

How did you get your first initial customers?

I was busy building the product at the beginning so my only marketing strategy was #buildinpublic on Twitter.

I got my first 10 customers by just showing my work and connecting with people I had zero followers back then and now reaching almost 3K followers so I guess some people like this kind of content!

As I was building, I was also learning from others. I think it's the most efficient strategy when you are starting out, you need to put your product in front of strangers. They either like it or not, that's the law of the market.

I reached the milestone of 1K MRR and it took me 5 months to get there.

I've also created multiple lead magnets (programmatic seo course, 50 programmatic seo examples, etc) to capture e-mails. E-mails list is key when you are starting a business.

I’ve also turned SEOmatic to a complete product-led growth with the creation of a freemium plan: no more paywall, easy signup, self-onboarding, upgrade when you are ready, user referrals, etc.

All you have to do is genuinely share your progress and show up everyday. You should not be afraid to launch a landing page with a link payment and ask strangers to pay. That's the quickest path to validate your idea.

I'm dogfooding myself with my own tool, that's the best way to create a better product!

How does your business make money?

Business model is subscription.

That's the best way to monetize for me because I have recurring costs. Fun fact, I only had one plan available for a year and I'm going to open my higher tier only now. This should help me make more MRR.

Currently making $2K MRR and it costs me $32 per month to run with Bubble.io, MailerLite for email solution, SurferSEO for on-page SEO optimization, June for Product Development, Senja for testimonials

It costs me roughly 150$/month to run an entire SaaS business at scale.

Before you go, what advice would you give to another who wants to start a business like yours?

There are only 3 things that you can control:

  • Just launch your idea

  • Test & Learn from others / Don't compare

  • Don't quit

It takes at least 2 years to run a successful SaaS and start to get tractions.

Build in nocode, you save yourself a year easy.
