A One-Person Productized Video-Editing Agency Making $4,000 MRR

How 10 pitches on LinkedIn kickstarted his agency business

Making $4000 monthly from his one-man productized video-editing agency

Hello! Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your business?

My name is Chetan. I am video editor and motion graphics designer.

Been editing videos since 5 years. Have created more than 200+ videos for enterprise, real estate, softwares and B2B companies.

A month ago, I was watching a video on youtube about a guy who productized his design services and working all by himself. Productizing a service in which you are good is a fantastic idea I thought.

I went on Linkedin and reached 10 people, having growth marketing as their job titles. Fortunately, one replied saying they are looking for short ~1 min product videos for marketing. I replied back about the business model with my pricing. They wanted to test with one single video and then go on for a subscription if they like it. That one single video costed them $1150 and the video was a great hit. They liked the quality and the output. $4000 USD MRR.

With this good news! I am scaling up my business as I am sure there are many startup SaaS companies who need a similar product videos. Get motion ad videos regularly for a flat monthly fee. I know there are many doing it already so this is not a genie idea.

I am calling it Pexmotion. Launching soon. Subscribe to get more updates on the launch!

How did you start this business? Take us through the process.

A month ago, I was watching a video on Youtube about a guy who productized his design services and working all by himself.

Productizing a service in which you are good is a fantastic idea I thought. So I created a productized service for videos for a monthly flat fee for Saas, B2B and AI startups. These companies have great products but they do not have videos to market them online.

So I reached out to them for making videos. I work with growth marketing teams. I have made $1150 usd already and a $4000 in pipeline before the launch. I wanted to test it out so I went on Linkedin and reached 10 people, having growth marketing as their job titles.

My usual monthly spending would be $15 for framer web hosting, $35 for the LLC company run and $50 for adobe creative cloud subscription. I use Trello and Slack's free versions for communication with my clients and project management.

How did you get your first initial customers?

I went on Linkedin and reached 10 people, targeting people with “growth marketing” as their job titles.

Here’s an example of my pitch:

Fortunately, one replied saying they are looking for short ~1 min product videos for marketing. I replied back about the business model with my pricing. They wanted to test with one single video and then go on for a subscription if they like it.

I am developing the website now and would like to promote my business on Twitter, cold emailing and FB ads. Also I would say having a strong portfolio worked really well in my case.

My target is to make $25000 MRR and also looking to scale up hiring contractors if everything goes well and according to the plan. As of now I am continuing with one customer who tested with one video since they liked the output they want to continue using my services monthly. I have given access to Trello dashboard, where they create video requests.

Since launch, what are your marketing strategies or channels to get new customers?

Now that the business model is working, I am developing the website for Pexmotion and also would like to grow on Twitter.

I have started cold emailing but not full fledge and looking to increase the frequency in coming days.

Also I would say having a strong portfolio worked really well in my case.

How does your business make money?

A productized service for videos for a monthly flat fee for Saas, B2B and AI startups.

These companies have great products but they do not have videos to market them online. So they can reach out to me for making videos.

I charge $4995 per monthly and $3995 if the client goes for a quaterly subscription. For this they get:

  • Unlimited motion videos for their startup product

  • Unlimited revisions slack access exclusive access to the project dashboard, where they can create video requests.

I have included screenshots of project dashboard and a pricing page which is currently in the development.

I am currently making $4000 MRR and my monthly spending would be $15 for Framer web hosting, $35 for the LLC company run and $50 for Adobe creative cloud subscription.

Take us through a typical day in your life running the business as a solo founder

I work for 6 hours a day on the videos, project management and marketing and posting my work on Twitter etc.

I am doing everything myself at the moment. But definitely need to scale up, depending on the number of clients.

Before you go, what advice would you give to another who wants to start a business like yours?

One piece of advice that I would give others like myself who are hustling out there is to have a strong portfolio of work that you are already doing.

If you would like to create a productized service, having a strong portfolio will helps a lot initially and helps you find clients online.
